The United Kingdom Cadet Class Association is delighted to be hosting the 2007 International Cadet World Championship at Pwllheli, one of the UK's leading championship venues, which offers ideal sailing conditions and shore facilities.
In addition to the International Regattas, the United Kingdom Cadet Class National & Open Championships 2007 are being held prior to the World Championship from Saturday 28th July to Wednesday 1st August.
I am confident that the organisers for 2007 will work hard and do their utmost to ensure that it is a successful and enjoyable regatta for not only the World Championship fleet but also the others who will come to sail in the open Promotional Regatta to be held alongside it.

Optimist (dinghy) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Optimist, more commonly called the "Opti" or "Oppy" is a beginner dinghy with a daggerboard and single sail.
The design is very simple, being basically a box made of glass-reinforced plastic or plywood with a thwart made of wood to help support the mast.
Very small children are sometimes "doubled up" in Optimists but in general they should be regarded as single handers - it is in this mode that children seem to gain the most in terms of confidence and improved skills.

The hard dinghy is often an aesthetic extension of the boat she tends; an impossible feat for an inflatable unless the mother yacht is a dirigible.
The bridle arrangement, the length of the tow line, and the dinghy's position on the stern wave are all critical.

 The Heron sailing dinghy
The Yachting World Cartop Dinghy (Heron Class) was designed in the UK in 1951 by Jack Holt who also designed the International Cadet, International Enterprise, G. 14, Hornet, Lazy E, Miracle, Mirror (with Barry Bucknell), Pacer, and Solo (that I know about).
It is supported by several clubs and effectively fills the "market position" for a two-person dinghy of this size.
A logical option for active NZ Heron owners would be to seek out opportunities to sail in company with owners of other sailing dinghies of similar size who are interested in expanding their understanding of design by seeing how dinghies of similar size but different design perform in the same conditions.
