Cadillac sold more than 61,000 copies of the current CTS in the U.S. in 2005, compared to roughly 38,000 in 2002, and this new model will surely improve on this result.
For the 2008 CTS, great attention was paid during the car’s design and development to incorporate further refinements to the car’s body structure and precision manufacturing.
CTS is thoroughly new and contemporary, even while it evokes the grandeur of classic Cadillac cars.

2003 Cadillac CTS Road Test Review - ROAD & TRAVEL Magazine
Forget that the CTS is a Catera replacement (you remember that zig-car?) because both the approach and the outcome are different enough to have no precedent.
The CTS is not the remake of a borrowed concept, but a totally new car and the first to be built on GM's new world platform called Sigma.
For me the handsomest aspect of the CTS is the rear three-quarter view with its interplay of edges and spaces accented by the exclamation point of the strong vertical taillights (said to emulate the verticality of the Cadillac fins of yesteryear.)

The nicest surprise from CTS is the availability of a five-speed stick shift, the first manual transmission in a Cadillac in some 50 years (it’s built by Getrag, a well-known and long-time manual transmission supplier to performance cars worldwide).
Kudos to Cadillac for realizing that if they want to appeal to the real enthusiast driver, a stick shift must be part of the package, even if only 10 per cent or so of buyers order their CTS so equipped.
Outside, CTS is the first Cadillac car to display the all-new hard and sharp edges from the company, which will be part of all their new models as time goes on.

The CTS delivers performance to match its looks, at a cost equal to a couple of bolts on its airborne progenitor.

The base Cadillac CTS, at $29,350, is reasonably priced, but frankly, we don't think it should be offered at all: Cadillac is a luxury brand, and the base CTS, while capable, doesn't have the look of an American luxury car inside (though BMW owners would find it to be just fine).
Overall, the Cadillac CTS is an amazing achievement, with excellent handling, good acceleration, and a roomy interior.

Mechanically, the CTS combines GM's new front-engine, rear-wheel-drive Sigma chassis with a choice of 2.8- or 3.6-liter twin-cam V-6 engines with variable valve timing or, in the high-performance CTS-V, a 400-horsepower version of the LS6 V-8 found in the Corvette.

Cadillac CTS - Review & Road Test - Automobile Magazine
To a teenager in the early 1970s, a Cadillac Eldorado was the very definition of an American car, something you could imagine taking for a cruise into the desert, one arm around your honey, one fingertip on the wheel, with Elvis crooning away on the eight-track.
To me, Cadillacs were always the biggest of the big, whether you looked back into the mists of the 1930s at the gorgeous V-12s and V-16s, or at the befinned extravaganzas of the late 1950s, or even at the front-wheel-drive boats of the following decade.
