Cadillac Eldorado - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cadillac Eldorado was the longest running American personal luxury car as it was the only one sold after the 1998 model year.
An Eldorado convertible would remain in the Cadillac line through 1966, but its differences from the rest of the line were generally modest.
For 1968 the Eldorado gained slight exterior changes to comply with new federal safety and emissions legislation, and as with the rest of the Cadillac lineup, a new 472 in³ (7.7 L) V8 engine rated at 375 hp (sea gross).

Cadillac Eldorado Brougham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Derived from a Cadillac concept vehicle exhibited during the GM Motorama of 1955, the Eldorado Brougham models of 1957 through 1960 were designed to showcase Cadillac's abilities as a maker of luxury vehicles.
While no single Cadillac stylist may be credited with the final design, the latter began on the drawing boards of Bob Scheelk, a new recruit to the GM Styling Section.
On September 15, 1955, the Cadillac Styling Section moved from its old quarters in downtown Detroit to the new, more modern General Motors Technical Center in Warren, north of the Motor City.

 Cadillac history Eldorado 1972
By then, the ultimate owner-driver Cadillac was the new Seville, a compact four-door priced at $12,479, but the soft-top Eldorado made a big splash for '76 as Detroit's last factory-built convertible.
Though Cadillac had held out longest against the steady, industry-wide drop in ragtop demand, there was no reason to persist by mid-decade.
Cadillac kept the very last one of those, but rabid speculators quickly bid the others up to three times the suggested $11,049 sticker price -- all to no avail.

Inside Line: Cadillac Eldorado -   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Cadillac had never before made a coupe with no accompanying sedan (there wouldn't be a four-door front-drive Caddy until the 1980 Seville), and the '67 Eldorado was also the only coupe that wasn't offered as a convertible.
The last 200 Eldorado convertibles off the line were all white and served as a de facto "last convertible special edition." Though '76 Eldorado convertibles were snapped up and stored by some collectors, they weren't particularly rare (14,000 were made) and, as it turned out, they weren't the last American convertibles.
Based on the 6.0-liter Cadillac V8, the V-8-6-4 theory was that individual cylinders would be electronically shut down as engine loads varied; a V8 for acceleration, a V6 for moderate loads and a V4 during cruise.
