	Cadillac - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Cadillac was formed from the remnants of the Henry Ford Company when Henry Ford departed along with several of his key partners.
		In the 1930s, Cadillac added cars with 12- and 16-cylinder engines to their range, many of which were fitted with custom coach-built bodies; these engines were remarkable at the time for their ability to deliver a combination of high power, silky smoothness and quietness.
		Cadillac's first tailfins, inspired by the twin rudders of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, appeared in 1948; the 1959 Cadillac was the epitome of the tailfin craze, with the most recognizable tailfins of any production automobile.

		Cadillac's prestigious new Eldorado Convertible Coupe, Style 6267-S, had several distinctive styling features.These included a daring new wrap-around windshield like the one used on the 1952 showcar, cut-down, dipped door-sills and a flush-fitting metal cover wich completely concealed the convertible roof when it was lowered.
		For the first time since 1949, the Sixty Special was built on its traditionel 133 inch wheel-base, three inches longer than the one used from 1950 to 1953.
		The new Sixty Special, Style 6029, was given its own distinctive bodyside trim wich included a fine chrome molding that extended from the tip of the front fender to the rear bumper, then along the lowered body side to the front wheel opening.

		It was not until 1910 that Cadillac introduced the first closed-body car.
		Later, convertibles were made less often, possibly due in part to an unfulfilled threat made in the mid-1970s by the United States government to increase rollover safety requirements that may have made auto manufacturers hesitant to manufacture cars that would be unsalable under those new restrictions.
		By the 1970s they had almost disappeared and in 1976 the Cadillac Eldorado was advertised as "The last convertible in America".
