Cadishead Public Band   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Cadishead Public Band was formed in 1877 under the title of Cadishead Brass Band and during its long history has taken on various titles to reflect, in most cases, where it was using for rehearsal premises.
One major change was when, around 1890, it became the Cadishead Congregational Brass Band during the period it rehearsed at Cadishead Congregational Church.
Around 1911, the former Smithy, at what is now the entrance to Cadishead Park, was used for rehearsal purposes and this was used when William Henry Fairhurst was the conductor, and it was only later that the Band moved to the premises in Moss Lane, at the rear of the Plough Inn.

The Irlam and Cadishead area, the most westerly part of the the metropolitan borough of Salford, was a comparatively remote and underdeveloped area of moss land until the early 19th century.
Back in 1212, the first record showed that the whole of Cadishead (then called 'Cadwalensate') was rented from King John by one Gilbert Notton for the sum of four shillings a year.
Much industrial development took place along the canal banks and the Irlam Steelworks, opened in 1910, were a major source of local employment and economic stability until their closure in 1979.

Subterranea Britannica: SB-Sites:Cadishead Station (2nd site)
For a few weeks in 1893 both lines were in use but eventually the original course of the line was split into two by the excavation of the Manchester Ship Canal.
The original line on which a short lived station by the name of Cadishead had stood between 1873 and 1879 remained in use as access to sidings adjacent to the Ship Canal.
Interestingly the course of the original line through the town of Cadishead outlived the deviation and remained in use serving sidings.

CADISHEAD Rhinos were in dreamland on Saturday – beating a team four divisions above them in the North West Counties League in their first appearance in the Barla National Cup.
But Cadishead were playing well and they shrugged off their numerical disadvantage to reduce their arrears when full back Mark Fisher went over on the fifth tackle.
The conversion was missed, much to the relief of the large home crowd, and Cadishead hung on to book their place in the second round.
