 Caesar's Civil War
Caesar's great propaganda campaign, his books "Bellum Gallicum (the Gallic Wars)" endeared the people even more to their almost mythical hero, and the Senate's cause in Italy was lost.
Caesar decided the best course of action was to settle matters in Rome, then move north to deal with Labienus, and then west to confront Pompey's army in Spain.
Aside from securing the treasury for his own war efforts, an incredible total of 15,000 bars of gold, 30,000 bars of silver and 30 million sesterces which the Republicans had neglected to secure in their haste to leave, Caesar spent less than a week in the eternal city.

I've read his "Commentaries" and "The Civil War", Suetonius' "The Twelve Caesars", Plutarch's "Lives" and a score of contemporary books about his life.
Goldsworthy starts with a synopsis of the events preceding the break out of the war, the different actors, the balance of power and the political situation of the last days of the Republic.
Next he focuses on the Civil War itself, starting with the Rubicon crossing till the final battle of Munda.

The Civil War is Caesar's masterly account of the celebrated war between himself and his great rival Pompey, from the crossing of the Rubicon in January 49 B.C. to Pompey's death and the start of the Alexandrian War in the autumn of the following year.
Like his "Gallic War," Julius Caesar's account of the civil war between himself and Pompey has been called propaganda (he does speak of himself in the third person after all), written intermittently by a very busy man engaged in many other "affairs", to justify himself and his actions to the Senate and people of Rome.
Caesar's eye for detail is meant to help his troops in future battles (and negotiations) and makes the events come alive.

Slavery In The Civil War Era
Initially the Northern goal in the war was the speedy restoration of the Union under the Constitution and the laws of 1861, all of which recognized the legitimacy of slavery.
When the war began, some Confederates claimed that the disparity in white manpower between North and South (6 million potential soldiers for the North versus only 2 million for the South) was irrelevant.
Once the war intensified in 1862, there were not enough white men left on the farms and plantations to provide adequate supervision of slave laborers.

Rome's Civil Wars - Ancient Roman Empire Forums
Especially considering some of the recent discussions we've had, its very difficult to argue with Caesar's civil war as not being the most significant event and could easily be considered the 'worst' depending on perspective.
In terms of the soldiery, probably Caesars civil war was devastating, but in terms of the populace, from my reading of that civil war I don't see as big an impact as in 69AD.
Rome had so many horrible civil wars that I often loose count of them and have trouble difficulty determining which single one could be considered the 'worst'.

Christianity's "civil war" – The Struggle for Power
Through it all, during the 4th-6th centuries, a Christian civil war was fought between Arianism and Catholicism, the terrible twins of a malevolent religion.
The Christian 'civil war' was not the story of the defence of orthodoxy, but the struggle to determine orthodoxy.
Ambrose persuaded Valentinian's son, the young caesar Gratian, to depose six Arian bishops and enact a series of laws between 379 and 380 prohibiting Arianism in the West.
