Although the generic classification of Australian agamids has undergone extensive changes over the last two decades, largely through disbandment of the mega-genus Amphibolurus, certain aspects remain contested.
(1983) recognised the following genera among the Western Australian agamids: Caimanops, Chelosania, Chlamydosaurus, Ctenophorus, Diporiphora, Gemmatophora, Moloch, Pogona and Tympanocryptis.
bilineata to be closest to Caimanops in their molecular genetic comparsions.
