Two steals helped put Cairns back in front at the start of the second quarter and after an arm-wrestle the Taipans had pushed out to a 47-41 lead at the long break on the back of an 11-4 run to end the quarter.
Cairns had a 22-point lead after opening the quarter with a 17-3 run, but fell asleep to allow Perth back into the game and be down by nine at the final break.
Taipan Luke Martin fell heavily on his ankle coming from the court with four minutes left, but Cairns hung on to clinch the 89-79 win, keeping their 3-0 home court streak in tact.
