CALAUAN, LAGUNA-EXCESSIVE quantities of household organic wastes, and not excretions from industrial firms, killed fish in San Pedro town here and Muntinlupa City recently, according to the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).
In an interview with the Inquirer Thursday, Jerry Carandang of the LLDA's Public Information Unit, said that contrary to common belief, the cause of the fishkills in Barangay Tunasan, Muntinlupa City and Barangay Cuyab, San Pedro, Laguna in early November was the high level of wastes from households and decayed parts of water hyacinths.
Carandang said the LLDA, including local government units and nongovernment organizations, is now preoccupied in a massive educational campaign to promote better systems in disposing of organic wastes coming from households.
