Calbiga, a fourth class municipality in Samar province, won the most coveted Bursary Award of the prestigious international competition Nations in Bloom, held in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands last October 2003.
Calbiga's proposed project is a nature park that would rise in a three-hectare Small Enterprise Park site in Barangay Bacrayan, which is between the national highway and the Calbiga River.
Calbiga is endowed with natural wonders such as the Calbiga River, the Calbiga Caves, the Lulugayan Falls, and the Literon Rapids which are potential eco-tourism destinations.

The Calbiga Caves, a 2,968-hectare cave system which is dubbed as the biggest karst formation in the Philippines and one of the largest in East Asia, is located about six km away from the town proper.
He talked about the folk songs, dances, and poetry of Calbiga such as the "siday'' (poem) and the "harana'' (courtship song) and the plan of the municipal government to put up a museum where historical records would be kept for posterity.

Calbiga has been a peaceful town and "this was the first time that such killing occurred (in this town)," Allid said.

It is presumptuous for anyone to conclude that the river systems of Samar will be permanently damaged, let alone the forests, farmlands and fishing grounds.
