In 1756 the nawab of Bengal, Siraj-ud-Daula, captured Calcutta and killed most of its garrison by imprisoning it overnight in a small, stifling room, known as the notorious “Black Hole.” Robert Clive retook the city in 1757.
The Univ. of Calcutta (founded 1857), several unaffiliated colleges, and the Indian Museum, which houses one of the world's outstanding natural history collections, are in the city.

So, a piece called Times Editorial may be found in the Sports section, where the piece is talking about politics and cricket, say, and so on and so forth.
One has only to note the intensely intelligent letters to the editor in other Calcutta dailies, like The Telegraph and The Statesman, to realise that the mob has a keen, sharp understanding of the events around and within it - and this should never be denied.
By denying such a forum, TOI in Calcutta seems to have forgotten that it is - in the end - of, for and by the people.
