Calder Freeway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Calder Freeway is a freeway linking Melbourne to Kyneton in Victoria, Australia.
The Calder Highway was named after William Calder, who was chairman of the Victorian road construction authority formerly known as the Country Roads Board from 1913 to 1928.
South of the Victoria/New South Wales border the highway is a two-lane, single carriageway in each direction, continuing through northwest Victoria from the Abbotsford Bridge, through Merbein to the major regional town of Mildura in the state's north-west.

This 7km section of new freeway passes through a predominantly rural environment, including sections of open pastures and others of dense Eucalypt forest in the Mt Macedon area.
The most important focus of the landscape project was minimisation of the impact of the freeway corridor passing through intact bushland of the Black Forest.
Environmental strengths of the project include retention of important vegetation habitat in the medians of the divided freeway, and significant widening of the bridge crossing of Slaty Creek to protect the riparian and natural hydrological values.

And clause 3D, "Victoria undertakes to ensure that users of the Scoresby Freeway "will not be required to pay a direct toll." Now, there has never been a case yet, where a State government, Queensland, NSW, Tasmania, any State government has breeched a written agreement, it hasn't happened before.
We have an agreement for the Calder Freeway too, that as the State government allocates money, the Commonwealth does.
And if the Victorian Government breeches the agreement, you can hardly put $440 million into the freeway, because you wouldn't be using tax payers dollars, the tolls would be paying for construction.

Brimbank Mayor, Cr Natalie Suleyman believes the State Government’s announcement of a $450,000 package of safety improvements for the Calder Freeway between Sunshine Avenue and the Thunderdome Circuit will only go a small way to solve issues for motorists on the Calder Freeway.
These intersections have seen too many accidents in recent years and the traffic management measures that were implemented by Vic Roads in late 2004 have placed a strain on the local road network.
Cr Suleyman said extending Kings Road to the Calder Freeway would improve access to the City via the Calder Freeway and relieve traffic congestion on Melton Highway.
