In 1818, part of the town was used to form the new Town of Rush (in Monroe County).
New York State Route 15 is another north-south highway in the eastern part of the town.
In the town the population was spread out with 26.2% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 30.1% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 years of age or older.

The town is in the northwest part of the county and is southwest of Rochester, NY.
The Town of Caledonia was established in 1803 as the "Town of Southampton," having previously been known as "Northhampton." It assumed it current name in 1806 due to the influence of settlers from Scotland.
Part of Caledonia was used to form the Town of Le Roy (Genesee County) in 1814, and in 1819, another part of Caledonia was removed to form part of the Town of York.

The sex offender registry bill, S. 217, was introduced with a purpose statement reading: "This bill proposes to create a sex offender registry and require notification to a community if a sex offender resides in the community." But when it emerged as law, the main purpose changed from notifying the community to notifying law enforcement.
Robert Onorato, a new Groton resident, was recently released from prison and is a convicted sex offender.

With the Legislature adjourned for the week of town meeting, Gov. Jim Douglas used the one-week legislative hiatus to travel around the state, staying in touch with constituents and communicating his policies and plans to voters.
