This will lead to the ludicrous situation where Inverness will play their ‘home’ cup matches at Caledonian Stadium but they and their fans must make a 210-mile round trip to Aberdeen for at least 18 ‘home’ league matches.
Even more ludicrously, I can reveal that by the turn of the year Inverness Caledonian Thistle will have a stadium which complies fully with new SPL rules which will come into force at the end of this season and will reduce the required capacity for an SPL stadium from 10,000 all-seated to 6,000 all-seated.
It is probably too much to ask the SPL to change things now and let Caledonian Stadium be used for home games immediately, but from January, when the winter weather will hit hard, Inverness will have a ‘proper’ stadium.

The offer is subject to a number of pre-conditions, including outline planning permission for a 50,000sqft store as well as permission for a three-storey office block, a public house and hotel, a fast-food outlet, park-and-ride facilities and a five-a-side football pitch.
It is also subject to surrender of part of the land currently leased to Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC Trust, for which the club would receive compensation, believed to be about £2 million.
It says as the offer is subject to planning permission, the council’s position as planning authority would be compromised, the development would go against the local plan, and the council could not be seen to favour an Asda store in the area without jeopardising the validity of the local plan process.

The first vote on the issue went against them, but that decision was subsequently reversed in a second ballot with the proviso that Caley Thistle play all their 'home' games at Aberdeen FC's Pittodrie stadium this season and redevelop their own Caledonian stadium in time for next year.
