Calgary, Alberta - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Calgary is well-known as a destination for winter sports and ecotourism with a number of major mountain resorts near the city and metropolitan area.
Unlike most cities with a sizable metropolitan area, most of Calgary's suburbs are incorporated into the city proper, with the notable exceptions of the city of Airdrie to the north, Cochrane to the northwest, Strathmore to the east, and the sprawling Springbank district to the west.
The inner city is, in turn, surrounded by relatively dense and established neighbourhoods such as Rosedale and Mount Pleasant to the north, Bowness and Westgate to the west, Park Hill, South Calgary, Altadore and Killarney to the south, and Forest Lawn/International Avenue to the east.

Ash v. Director Southern East Slopes and Prairie Regions, ERS, AEP Re: City of Calgary, Rep & Rec.
The Director and City rightly characterize the Approvals as a considerable improvement over the 1994 approvals, because they are more specific in locations and application techniques, they require a reduction in pesticide use near open water and, through the IPM approach, they allow the use of pesticides only "when necessary".
The City listed "hand pulling," "hand removal," "mechanical control," and "mechanical removal" in response to the same question on the application form with respect to the City's request to use pesticides to control several other target plants.
The Board believes that giving the City discretion is appropriate, as long as there are clear, rational criteria for the City to exercise its discretion on a site-by-site basis, and there is a mechanism for the public and the Director to ensure that the City's ad hoc pesticide use decisions are consistent with these criteria.
