The Calgary Hitmen figured to be champing at the bit in anticipation of Wednesday night's Western Hockey League encounter at the Pengrowth Saddledome with the first-year Chilliwack Bruins.
Calgary's domination of the first and third periods was ridiculous, allowing just five of the visitors' 14 shots in those two periods, while getting off 22 of their own.
Calgary held a big edge for most of the first 40 minutes, particularly in the first period when they outshot their foes 12-2, holding an 8-0 edge at the 11-minute mark.

Calgary had been without a WHL team since 1987, when the Calgary Wranglers moved south to become the Lethbridge Hurricanes, as the juniors could not compete against the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League.
The Hitmen were caught up in a second controversy in their second season as general manager and head coach Graham James was forced to resign partway through the 1996-97 season after being charged with sexually assaulting two of his players while coaching the Swift Current Broncos.
In the past several seasons, the Hitmen have settled in as a middle of the road team on the ice.
