The goal of Calhoun's college counseling program is to have each graduate attend the college or university best suited to that student.
Calhoun's Director of College Counseling maintains communication with a broad array of colleges and universities; coordinates visits to Calhoun with representatives from numerous colleges and universities; and keeps an up-to-date college reference library, including information on financial aid.
Because of the College Seminar, the counselor's one-on-one meetings with students become more fruitful; she is able to identify swiftly students' individual concerns and needs.

 R2R - Calhoun Community College
The College has supported the course redesign project by hiring a lab assistant with a background in statistics and converting what had been a dedicated accounting lab to one devoted to business statistics as well.
Calhoun Community College’s plan included increasing the number of students from 281 to 480 and the number of sections from 14 to 20, with the additional sections being taught by part-time faculty as part of the redesigned, integrated course.
Calhoun also added a half-time lab assistant with a background in statistics to the final redesign, which was not anticipated in the plan.

Calhoun occupied national political office in this country for almost 40 years, wielding enormous political influence on the preservation of slavery.
In 1930, Yale University decided that one of its residential colleges should be named "Calhoun College," in honor of this man. When Yale University built Harkness Tower in the 1930s, Calhoun's statue was installed as one of the eight Yale graduate "Worthies" of honor.

Newman became the 3rd president of the college in 1919 and in 1921 Academic Hall burned to the ground.
This was a devastating blow to the college and the school struggled financially until 1924 when philanthropist Douglass C. Smith donated $100,000 to the school.
Calhoun College had difficulties attracting students and most began coming from third world countries with their expenses provided for by the students' sponsoring governments.

As it climbed to that level in recent weeks, faculty and staff members at Calhoun Community College heard increasing griping from students about the toll that commuting to class was putting on their already tight budgets.
Calhoun administrators brainstormed to “see if there were any alternatives we could come up with that would make it easier on their pocketbooks,” says Janet Martin, director of public relations for the college.
(Calhoun will also offer two class periods on Friday morning, designed specially for part-time students who want to fit their six credit hours into one day a week.) The college won’t decrease any of its other offerings or services for students on Fridays in the spring semester, which starts January 9.

One suggested alternative is to call the college Calhoun-Bouchet College, in honor of Calhoun and another great son of Eli, Edward Bouchet, the first African American to graduate from Yale College and the first African American to earn a Ph.D. in the United States, again from Yale.
At first, Calhoun was considered an undesirable college because of its location at the corner of the College and Elm, where trolleys used to go screeching around the corner.
This perception of Calhoun changed under Master Charles Schroeder, who once remarked that if the despicable trolley system were ever removed he would purchase a trolley car, put it in the courtyard, and hold a celebration to commemorate the event.
