Calhoun County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas.
Calhoun County was formed on December 6, 1850 and was named for John C. Calhoun, a Vice President of the United States.
In the county the population is spread out with 24.60% under the age of 18, 7.00% from 18 to 24, 28.20% from 25 to 44, 24.30% from 45 to 64, and 16.00% who are 65 years of age or older.

Calhoun County was created by an act of the Virginia General Assembly on March 5, 1856 from parts of Gilmer County.
Calhoun County was named in honor of John Caldwell Calhoun (1782-1850), a famous statesman from South Carolina who championed the cause of slavery, the South, and state's rights.
In September, 1856, the justices of the county court met at a house near the residence of Peregrine Hays in Arnoldsburg.

Calhoun County, located in south central Arkansas, was created by the General Assembly of the State on 6 December 1850 when formed from part of Dallas and Ouachita Counties and one small island in the Moro Creek which belonged to Bradley County.
This material was originally published by Goodspeed Publishing in the late 1800's and this reprint contains memoirs and biographies of the early pioneers.
This volume also contains a brief history of the county as it developed up to the time this volume was written in the 1880s.
