California 52 is the Soledad Freeway, starting at Interstate 5 at the foot of Mount Soledad in Rose Canyon, then heading east through San Clemente Canyon to Interstate 805.
California 52 through this area was built on the original landfill, and as a result, the road has a tendency to sink.
Watch this stretch of California 52 for dips in the freeway, because this particular section of freeway was constructed on top of an old landfill that was topped off in the middle of the 20th century.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), which represents the state departments of transportation in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, wants to “Celebrate the Interstate!” both nationally and in individual states.
California is itself commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Interstate Highway System on June 16, 2006, at San Francisco’s Lincoln Park, which was the western terminus of one of America’s best-known historic roads, the Lincoln Highway.
Following the route of the Lincoln Highway (later US 40), he and his crew took 62 days to cross the country and often broke down or met with delays caused by the bad conditions of the roads.

Although the California Legislature may have thought that they could authorize the Commissioner of the California Highway Patrol to set standards for helmets, the Commissioner was and is confined, by law, to adopting only those standards established by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The California Highway Patrol has exceeded its authority and adopted standards regarding enforcement that extend far beyond Federal Motor Vehicle Standard (FMVSS) 218 -- the Federal standard for motorcycle helmets -- which is why the California helmet law will ultimately be successfully challenged on that basis alone, and removed.
If the California Highway Patrol were, even at this late date, adopt FMVSS 218, then the California helmet law will be challenged on the basis that FMVSS 218 is not intelligible to persons of average intelligence, and removed.

The Secretary of Agriculture forwarded the report to the American Association of State Highway Officials (AASHO), which represented the State highway agencies that owned and operated the roads proposed for the new system.
Based on these changes, U.S. 52 had been altered by the time AASHO adopted the U.S. highway system by State ballot on November 11, 1926.
