  California State Route 55 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is known to be crowded due to it being the primary free link from businesses in Irvine to State Route 91, which leads to the residential areas of the Inland Empire and other places northeast of Orange County.
The stretch of the 55 between Fair Dr. and 19th Street was opened in 1990; plans to extend the 55 to State Route 1 were never realized.
Route 55 is part of the Freeway and Expressway System, as stated by section 253.1 of the California State Highway Code.

 History of California State Naval Forces (Naval Battalion and the California Naval Militia)
An act of the California Legislature approved March 31, 1891, authorized the establishment of a Naval Battalion, consisting of not more than four companies of Naval Militia, to be known as the Naval Battalion of the National Guard of California.
In 1897, the State received from the Navy Department, the USS MARION, to be used for drill and armory purposes by the three San Francisco divisions, and the USS PINTA, to be located at San Diego and used by the Third Division of the Naval Militia as headquarters and armory.
Lieutenant Commander Southerland stated further, that the officers of the organization were unanimous in the opinion that it should be under the jurisdiction of the Navy Department instead of being under State control; with which opinion he heartily agreed.

 American Discovery Trail: California
After entering California on the Tahoe Rim Trail, the ADT follows a southwesterly course through forests and mountain meadows roughly paralleling the northwest shoreline of Lake Tahoe at a distance of several miles.
About 20 miles from the state line, the ADT leaves the Tahoe Rim Trail and follows the Western States Trail which goes steeply downgrade for 2 to 3 miles where it reaches the Truckee River Bridge on Highway 89.
The Western States trailhead is next to the north side of the bridge.

From Squaw Valley the ADT follows the Western States Trail, descending from 8,700 feet at Emigrant Pass in the Sierras to 1,300 feet at Auburn while dropping into and back out of several very deep canyons.
En route, the ADT follows the 2,600 mile long Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail for several miles as the ADT passes through the Granite Chief Wilderness.
Total length of the trail in California is 380 miles and consists of nine segments.
