California State University Stanislaus (CSU Stanislaus) is a 7,500-student university located in a rapidly urbanizing region of California’s agricultural Central Valley.
The CSU Stanislaus service region is home to large communities of Spanish, Portuguese, Hmong, Punjabi, Khmer, Lao, Basque, and Syriac speakers, as well as descendents of the Northern Europeans who settled the valley at the turn of this century and families who fled the Dust Bowl in the 1930s.
In 1998, the CSU Stanislaus University Educational Policies Committee—a faculty governance body charged specifically with oversight of the curriculum and other academic issues—organized a Globalization Task Force composed of faculty representing all three colleges of the campus and chaired by the director of the Office of Global Affairs.

On August 11, 2005, a file server in the Financial Services Department at California State University, Stanislaus was accessed without authorization by an outside source.
While the University has no evidence indicating that any of the students’ information was accessed, as a precaution, the University is sending letters to all 877 workers to make them aware of the breach.
University officials have informed students in the letters how to contact one of the three national credit-reporting agencies to initiate a free fraud-alert process.

The word Stanislaus is a corruption of Estanislao, the baptismal name of a mission-educated renegade Indian chief who led a band of Indians in a series of battles against Mexican troops.
