The theme of the celebration is "Let Us Conserve and Protect the Tamaraw." Guests during this event were Josefina de Leon of the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau and national coordinator of the Tamaraw Month celebration and environment and natural resources officer Maximino Jumig.
The five winners of the quiz bee will represent Oriental Mindoro in the Bio Quiz "Battle of the Champions" on Oct. 28 in Calintaan town, Occidental Mindoro.

The power problem of the two provinces was the main focus of the first Mindoro Power Summit on Jan. 30, an occasion also attended by Energy Secretary Vincent Perez.
Power supply to Mindoro is provided by the Napocor, two independent power producers (Mirant and IPC), and two electric cooperatives -- the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative and Omeco.
During the summit, a resolution, requesting the Napocor to repair, rehabilitate and overhaul the existing diesel-run power plants and construct the Calapan power transformers and substations, was submitted to Perez.

Luisa N. Encomio, 28, is currently detained with her 10-month old child in Mamburao Provincial Jail, Occidental Mindoro, 6 hours drive from Manila.
Encomio was arrested without a warrant on 6 May 2004 for being an alleged New People's Army (NPA) member and her involvement in a foiled attempt to ambush a convoy of police officers and soldiers in Brgy.
Quiriron, Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro in May 2000.  She was only formally charged with attempted murder on 13 May 2004, which exceeds the legislated 36 hours limit of detaining without charges.  She has not been produced to court as of today.
