Callington (Calweton, Calvington, Killington, Killiton) is situated in the deanery and Hundred of East.
It is bounded on the north by Stoke Climsland, east by Calstock and St Dominick, south by St Mellion and St Ive, and on the west by Southill.
The town of Callington is situated on a general declivity, but the prospects from it are neither extensive nor picturesque, more especially in some directions where the boundaries are fixed by the more elevated hills.

Callington station was the terminus for a branch line that ran to Bere Alston where it joined the Southern Railways Tavistock to Plymouth line.

Callington was the last Cornish Parliamentary Borough created by Queen Elizabeth I to support her government.
1901-1934 Callington was an Urban District Council; from 1834 a Parish Council.
Dolerite, an igneous, intrusive rock (ie, a magma that failed to reach the surface), is widely exposed South of Fore Street and Tavistock Road, and is closely associated with a small outcrop of mantle peridotite near the junction of Castlewich and Saltash Road, from which it may have derived.

Callington is named after a copper mining town in Cornwall and lies beside the Bremer River about an hours drive east of Adelaide in the Hills.
Like a lot of the smaller mines, Callington had its ups and downs but during its height a water pumping system was used because the main shaft soon reached below the water table.
Callington is off the Freeway at the Monarto Zoo exit and the mine ruins are well interpreted for visitors.

Callington came back at their hosts during the second half so it was fortunate that Altarnun scored their fourth to dampen the visitors spirits and what a beautiful goal it was with Nick Tryner playing Wayne Smith into space he took one touch before unleashing a wickedly swerving shot into the net.
Callington continued the fight and were rewarded with a consolation goal but could not score anymore as the Altarnun defence held firm.

 Callington Branch Stations
At Calstock the new station was constucted adjacent to the Cornwall end of the new viaduct across the River Tamar, at a much higher level than the original sidings on the Quay.
To cater for the Callington branch line a new platform face was built at the back of the Up Main platform, which then became an island, although the branch platform face did not extend as far towards Tavistock as the main line side.
There were another two sidings at the back of the yard, which had a separate connection from the single line side at the Callington end of the station, just at the spot where a minor road crossed the line by a small girder over-bridge.

The town of Callington is situated in an area of east Cornwall that once supported many mines and quarries.
During the second half of the 19th Century there were a number of proposals for railways in the area, either specifically to serve the Callington area and its industries, or as part of larger railway schemes within Devon and Cornwall.
The old ECMR goods depots were replaced by new passenger stations at Callington Road (Kelly Bray), Stoke Climsland (Monks Corner), Latchley (Cox's Park), Gunnislake (Drakewells) and Calstock, as well as an interchange with the LandSWR at Bere Alston.
