  Postcards - Previous Feature: Callington
Callington is named after a copper mining town in Cornwall and lies beside the Bremer River about an hours drive east of Adelaide in the Hills.
This mill was built by the Thomas brothers in 1858 and had only been operating for a few weeks when their father ran into financial problems and they had to foreclose.
Callington is off the Freeway at the Monarto Zoo exit and the mine ruins are well interpreted for visitors.

He also constructed a new mill leat which enabled a new wheel to be used which was of the overshot design, with cast iron wheel sides and wooden slots or buckets.
The mill leat as cut by James Cornish is reported to be the longest in S. Cornwall - some 1.5 miles long with several launders (guttering to carry the water) over depressions in the ground between the intake and the mill wheel, necessary to give it the height to work the overshot water wheel.
She was born in 1854 and died in Launceston on 10.07.1910 and was buried in Callington.

At the time the mill was producing 20-30 bushells of flour an hour.
By 1850 the mill had been sold to Thomas Jillett who established a steam mill and production rose to 5-7 tons of flour a day.

 Postcards - Feature: Callington Nursery
By the 1850's, Callington was a busy copper town with about six hundred people including one hundred and forty men and boys who worked the mines.
But for years the Callington Mill was a privately-owned family home, inaccessible to the public.
It was on the verge of collapse back in the 70's when a local architect restored the Mill, and now Eric does his bit to restore the public's interest in Australian native plants.
