  Callovian - LoveToKnow 1911
CALLOVIAN (from Callovium, the Latinized form of Kellaways, a village not far from Chippenham in Wiltshire),,in geology, the name introduced by d'Orbigny for the strata which constitute the base of the Oxfordian or lowermost stage of the Middle Oolites.
Rocks of Callovian age (according to the continental classification) are widely spread in Europe, which, with the exception of numerous insular masses, was covered by the Callovian Sea.
Clays and shales with ferruginous oolites represent the Callovian of Germany; while in Russia the deposits of this age are mainly argillaceous.

The Sauropterygia were marine predators of the Mesozoic, which includes the Triassic near shore Nothosauria and Pachypleurosauria, and the post-Triassic, fully marine, Plesiosauria; the Plesiosauria comprises the short-necked pliosaurs and the longer-necked plesiosaurs.
Five genera of Callovian pliosaurs are currently recognised, but this work concentrates on the three short-snouted genera; Liopleurodon (of BBC "Walking with Dinosaurs" fame) Simolestes, and the newest genus Pachycostasaurus.
Following clarification of short-snouted Callovian pliosaur cranial taxonomy, never before attempted reconstructions are presented, and the skull, mandible and teeth are fully described.

Faunal Invasions As a Source of Morphological Constraints and Innovations? The Diversification of the Early ...
We observe a progressive and sustained increase until the Ishmae zone (#06; mid-Bathonian) which can be attributed to (1) the progressive recovery of thick forms (trend of the minimum values on PC 1) and (2) the individualization of microconchs inducing a major increase in morphospace occupation.
A new morphospace structure is obtained either by destruction of the initial arrangement (e.g., extinction of some peak), or by modification of the initial arrangement by acquisition of a new peak and its superimposition on the former one (e.g., origination of a new peak).
At the very onset of the early Callovian, expansion of the geographic area by ingression into new provinces entailed a reorganization of the morphospace with the origination of a new peak in association with the two existing ones.

The fault reactivation associated with the Tithonian extensional event increases to the south and is responsible for the formation of the Jurabi Horst.
During the first three phases of extension along the northwest Australian margin, the "present-day" Jurabi Horst was a structural low (i.e., Permian, late Triassic, and Callovian) and during the fourth phase of extension (Tithonian) was uplifted and became a structural high covered by thick Jurassic syn-rift deposits.
