Caloocan City (Filipino: Lungsod ng Caloocan) is one of the cities and municipalities that comprise Metro Manila in the Philippines.
Southern Caloocan City lies directly north of the City of Manila and is bounded by Malabon City and Valenzuela City to the north, Navotas to the west, and Quezon City to the east.
Northern Caloocan City is the northern most territory of Metro Manila and lies to the east of Valenzuela City, north of Quezon City, and south of San Jose del Monte City in the province of Bulacan.

CALOOCAN used to be part of the township of Tondo.
As a center of industry and commerce, Caloocan gained prominence in the early 1960s, prompting Congress to pass Republic Act No. 3278 that converted the town into a city, which was signed into law on February 16, 1962, by then President Diosdado P. Macapagal.
The conversion into a city finally broke the shackles that bound the old municipality to the provincial government of Rizal and was achieved through the wishes of the town’s residents, expressed in a plebiscite held in 1961, pursuant to the original charter.

The parts of Tondo were Navotas, Malabon, and Caloocan; and the parts of Nueva Ecija were Mariquina, Balintawak, Caloocan, Pasig, San Felipe Neri (presently called Makati), Las Piñas, what had been known as Paranaque, and Muntinlupa were combined to form the Province of Manila.
The capital of the Province was Intramuros, then itself called and considered to be Manila, a walled city located along the banks of Pasig River and Manila Bay in the present Manila.
The northern line, known as Northrail and connecting Manila to Caloocan City, is currently closed.

A TOTAL of 900 residents of Caloocan benefited from the mobile-passport processing services held last week at the Caloocan North city hall.
Mayor Enrico Echiverri of Caloocan City said some 1,200 residents went to city hall, but 300 were not granted passports after the Department of Foreign Affairs personnel screening them discovered they had incomplete documents and requirements.
Echiverri said that Caloocan “made history” since it is the first city in the country where the foreign affairs department was able to issue passports within an hour.
