  Cambay - LoveToKnow 1911
CAMBAY, a native state of India, within the Gujarat division of Bombay.
The principal one, as the inscription intimates, is Pariswanath, or Parswanath, carved in the reign of the emperor Akbar; the fl one has the date of 1651 inscribed.
In 1780 Cambay was taken by the army of General Goddard, was restored to the Mahrattas in 1783, and was afterwards ceded to the British by the peshwa under the treaty of 1803.

Ruins in the Gulf of Cambay - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On May 19, 2001, India's science and technology minister Murli Manohar Joshi announced the finding of what was reported to be "the remains of an ancient city" on the seabed of the Gulf of Cambay (also known as the Gulf of Khambat), along a nine-kilometer stretch off the coast of Gujarat province.
Geologists argue that the many of the "geometric patterns" seen on the sonar images which the NIOT team interpreted to be submerged structures, are instead obvious artifacts of the sonar imaging process itself.
This raises the possibility that the extremely old samples, as argued for many other "artifacts" recovered from the Gulf of Cambay, are not man-made artifacts or potsherds, but rather concretions, nodules, and related objects of natural origin [3].

Gulf Of Cambay - LoveToKnow 1911
GULF OF CAMBAY, an inlet in the coast of India, in the Gujarat division of Bombay.
The tides, which are very high, run into it with amazing velocity, but at low water the bottom is left nearly dry for some distance below the latitude of the town of Cambay.
It is, however, an important inlet, being the channel by which the valuable produce of central Gujarat and the British districts of Ahmedabad and Broach is exported; but the railway from Bombay to Baroda and Ahmedabad, near Cambay, has for some time past been attracting the trade to itself.

Basic knowledge of earth sciences leads to the conclusion that, by virtue of their great depth, the Cambay cities are very probably more than 6,000 years old - and hence stand in contradiction to orthodox views on the origins of civilisation.
Since Cambay is a tectonically active area, we have to keep tectonics in mind when using Glenn Milne's sea-level model to estimate the minimum age of the Cambay cities.
Thirdly, in the absence of direct information on tectonics in the Gulf of Cambay, we felt that the date of 7,000 years was perhaps not excessively conservative.

 Artifacts or Geofacts?
Because innumerable people have been either drown by the storm surges of tropical cyclones or drowned in shipwrecks within the Gulf of Cambay, it is not at all surprising that human remains of any type can be found in the area surveyed for archaeological remains.
"Cambay pedants" occur widespread and have been found at widely separated places as Lake Texoma, Texas and, as illustrated by Kinder (1923:plate 10), the valley of the Ottawa River in Ontario as shown in Figure 10.
As a result, whatever grabbed from the bottom is a mixture of rocks, teeth, and artifacts from wide variety of sources and ages that typically lacks an interpretable archaeological context.

Gulf of Cambay underwater archaeology - 3,500 B.C.
The carbon dating of the wooden artifact, which was recently carried out by the Birbal Sahani Institute of Palaeobotony and the National Geophysical Research Institute, indicates that the settlements, accidentally discovered by a team of oceanographers, could be one of the oldest Neolithic sites discovered in India till date.
The acoustic images of the area present channel-like features, indicating the presence of a river in the region ‘‘Geometrical structures and the antiquities have been discovered in an area only within 200 m adjoining the channel indicating human activity on the banks of the river that was present at that time,’’ Prof Rajguru added.
Having discovered indications of a possible settlement earlier in 2001, NIOT scientists undertook a confirmatory survey in November 2001 in the Gulf of Cambay area, by using advanced marineunderwater survey techniques with side-scan sonar and sub-bottom profiler.

Now, it was announced in January, a civilization has been uncovered that would have appeared just as ancient to the people who built the pyramids as the pyramids seem to us.
The vast city — which is five miles long and two miles wide — is believed to predate the oldest known remains in the subcontinent by more than 5,000 years.
Theorists are postulating that the area where this city exists was submerged when the ice caps melted at the end of the last Ice Age.

The first cities of the historical period are as far away from these cities as we are today from the pyramids of Egypt," he said.

The Hindu : Harappan-like ruins in Gulf of Cambay
The discovery was made a few weeks ago when the multi- disciplinary underwater surveys, carried out by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), picked up images of several ``excellent geometrical objects'' which were normally man-made in the nine-kilometre-long stretch, west of Hazira in Gujarat.
A detailed examination of the geology and tectonics of the area revealed that a couple of major rivers have been flowing approximately in the east-west direction coinciding with the course of the Tapti and Narmada rivers.
Due to the geological processes and tectonic events, the entire Cambay area might have sunk, taking down with it the then existing part of the river sections and the ancient settlement.
