In 1948 Cornell moved his firm to Cambridge, Maryland, where he continued his maritime book publishing program, and in 1955, inaugurated the Tidewater Publishers imprint to accommodate books of local interest.
After the death of Felix Cornell in 1970, the firm was continued by Mary Jane Cornell, his widow, and Robert F. Cornell, his son.
Many of the books originally published by Felix Cornell are still in print, including both of the first two books he issued—the American Merchant Seaman's Manual (now in its seventh edition) and the Encyclopedia of Knots and Fancy Rope Work (now in its fourth).
