The council unanimously voted Monday at its regular monthly meeting to move ahead with arranging for the engineering and design work for the construction of a new town hall on a five-acre parcel located off of the northeast corner of S. Main Street and Voshell Mill Road.
That left the council with no other choice but to decide on the King parcel for the municipal building, which town officials say is needed because the current town hall and police station do not have adequate space at the present Camden-Wyoming Avenue locations.
As a result of the expressed concerns of the residents, the council voted to establish a committee to do a study of East Street to be completed in 90 days.

CAMDEN - City Council on Thursday became the first governing body in the state to voice support for legislation that could pave the way for syringe-exchange programs to combat the spread of AIDS.
Although the council would have to take another vote in the future to formally approve such a program, Thursday's vote does indicate Camden's willingness to include a needle exchange component in its AIDS-reduction efforts.
The majority of members on Gov. Christie Whitman's Advisory Council on AIDS have backed needle exchanges, but the governor has bucked that recommendation, saying she believes such programs send a message that the government is condoning intravenous drug use.
