  Wikipedia: Camel
A camel is either of the two species of large odd-toed ungulate in the genus Camelus, the Dromedary and the Bactrian Camel.
The term camel is also used more broadly, to describe any of the six camel-like creatures in the family Camelidae: the two true camels, and the four South American camelids: Llama, Alpaca, Guanaco and Vicuna.
The Dromedary and the Bactrian Camel are both still used for milk, meat, and as beasts of burden—the Dromedary in northern Africa and western Asia; the Bactrian Camel further to the north and east in central Asia.

Adult camels have two incisor teeth in their upper jaws; they lack an omasum, the third stomach division of the ruminants, which is considered the water reabsorbing portion of the stomach; they have no gallbladder; and the hooves have been reduced to claw-like toes, projecting beyond the pads.
In India, camel meat is not eaten by the Hindus (Simoons, 1961), nor by the Christian Copts of Egypt, Zoroastrians of Iran, Mandaeans of Iraq and Iran, Nosaioris of Syria, Ethiopians of Christian Faith nor in Israel the camel is considered as being unsuitable as a source of meat.

The Dromedary (Camelus dromedarius) is a large even-toed ungulate native to northern Africa and western Asia, and is the best-known member of the camel family.
Domesticated camels were used through much of North Africa, and the Romans maintained a corps of camel warriors to patrol the edge of the desert.
The Persian camels, however, were not particularly suited to trading or travel over the Sahara; rare journeys made across the desert were made on horse-drawn chariots.

 Camels
The wild population of Bactrian camels has been seriously reduced in recent years because of intense hunting by Man, or the inability of the camels to compete with domestic livestock for the limited supply of food provided by the sparse vegetation of the desert.
Despite all this, the camel can carry a load of around 181k (400lb) over considerable distances, while the dromedary or riding camel can travel up to 100 miles in one days, so it is not really surprising that camels are regarded as valuable 'beasts of burden'.
The South American camels did not develop humps, but there can be no mistake about their family origin if the head of the llama is studied and then compared to that of the 'true camel'.

 washingtonpost.com: 'Camel': A Family Reunion
Using both neutral observation and the occasional reconstruction of events in the daily life of a multigenerational family of Mongolian camel farmers in the Gobi desert, "Weeping Camel" has the look of verisimilitude, but the feel of fiction.
What it follows is, in essence, a crisis of estrangement between a mother camel who has rejected her baby, for reasons unknown.
The resolution of the crisis, brought about by the drafting of a musician from a settlement several miles away to ease the two back together through plaintive song, is the true subject of the film, which climaxes in the episode of maternal "weeping" referred to in the title.
