Sester had already formed a band and with a mutual dislike of the sports culture of their school, he and Muncey soon became friends.
Muncey eventually joined Sester’s band, whose repertoire included a mix of You Am I covers and “whatever else was going ‘round.”

Two years ago, Jet's Cameron Muncey was a hospital orderly in his native Melbourne and getting a bit sick of, well, being around the sick.
But unlike compatriots the Vines, who have pricked their own balloon with a patchy debut album and shambolic live shows, Jet have shown signs of living up to the hype generated by the fickle British music press.
Recording and overseas touring commitments have meant that Jet - Muncey, brothers Nic (guitar/vocals) and Chris (drums/vocals) Cester and bassist Mark Wilson - have been away from home for nine months of 2003, denying local audiences proper exposure to the home-grown heroes.

After some quick introductions, drummer Chris Cester and guitarist Cameron Muncey draw the short straws to do the interview while bassist Mark Wilson and Chris' brother, frontman Nic, venture off, presumably to nurse their hangovers.
With that warning in tow we continue carefully, though not before upsetting Cameron by suggesting it was a stroke of good fortune that both Apple (iPod) and Vodafone chose to use Jet's single Are You Gonna Be My Girl for their ad campaigns - arguably the major factor in breaking the band worldwide.
Mention their name and Chris and Cameron momentarily turn into teenage boys, air guitaring and singing Bon Scott-era lyrics in unison.

"We were with our producer doing our album and we said that we wanted to get some Billy Preston-esque keyboards on a couple of tracks, so he said why don't we just get Billy Preston?" Cameron Muncey recalls.
