The first effort to establish a township by the name of Amor was made in January, 1879, at which time the county commissioners rejected a petition to organize township 135, range 40 (now Dead Lake township) and township 136, range 40 (now Edna township) as Amor township.
Amor is the center township of Otter Tail county, there being just four tiers of townships on the east and four on the west, by three tiers on the north and three on the south.
It is bounded on the north by Dead Lake, on the west by Maine, on the south by Everts, on the south and east by Otter Tail Lake and on the east by Otter Tail township.

 Koochiching County History
Most of the early camps were constructed of logs and other material cut at the campsites because of the difficulty of moving lumber and other building materials upstream to the remote timber areas.
Camp 6 at Loman dates from 1910 and was used until 1937, when it closed down after the last of the logs and pulpwood from the Littlefork Drive of that year had been hoisted from Rainy River and rail hauled to the mills at International Falls.
Camp 29, located at MP 32 of the Deer River Line, dates from 1912; built first as a producing camp, it served later as railroad headquarter camp until the steel was removed from the Deer River Line branch in 1947, ending the logging railroad era in Koochiching County.

In this camp were assembled, organized and trained the larger part of the volunteer regiments and battalions which brought fame and honor to the State of Louisiana in the Civil War.
Camp Moore was made a camp of instruction for conscripts from the area in Louisiana east of the Mississippi River.
It was however the Camp Moore Chapter No. 562 United Daughters of the Confederacy, organized in 1902, and their descendants who are primarily responsible for restoration of the old cemetery and the creation of the Camp Moore Museum there.

It is bounded on the north by Walnut Grove township, on the east by Mound, on the south by Scotland, and on the west by Emmet.
The land, outside of the wooded district, is diversified, being composed in part of level prairie, and again of rolling surface, the whole, with the numberous handsome houses and painted barns thickly studding the county, presenting a picturesque and pleasing landscape to the eye of the observer.
Thomas A. Brooking came to Macomb township in the fall of 1834, where he spent the winter, and in the spring of 1835, built a double cabin on section 30, where the cemetery now is. He afterward removed to section 7, where he accumulated a large amount of land, some 600 acres in all.

An effort was made on March 22, 1880, to organize a civil township out of the four congressional townships, then unorganized, now known as Pine Lake, Corliss, Homestead and Butler, but the commissioners refused to grant the request of the petitioners because they considered the proposed township too large.
The new township was called Pine Lake at the request of the petitioners, who also asked in that petition that the first election be held at the house of Joseph Daiker on the 23rd of the same month.
The topography of this township is not unlike that of many other townships in the county.

 Township Rights Survive Legislative Attacks Principle of Local Control Still Alive in Minnesota
Townships have used this right to place common sense limits on large developments such as large-scale industrial-style livestock operations, often referred to as factory farms.
Even before the 2004 Legislative session began, a Minnesota Department of Agriculture official attempted to blame problems in the livestock industry on local governments, saying in Agri News on Nov. 27, 2003, that local governments need to be reined in and given parameters in which to operate.
In addition, the Minnesota Agri-Growth Council released a report before the session began which attempted to argue that local government was a major reason for the decline in the state’s livestock industry (http://www.agrigrowth.org/livestock.html).

More than 120 players from around the country have been invited to participate in the weeklong camp, 25 of those were from region II and three from Minnesota (Isaac Kannah of Brooklyn Park, Eric Miller of Woodbury and Dylan Xiong of White Bear Township).
At the camp a typical day would involve breakfast at 7:00 am, training from 9:00 – 11:00 am, lunch at noon, rest in own rooms from 1:00 – 2:30 pm, game at 4:00 pm, dinner at 6:00 pm, meetings 8:00 pm, in own room 9:45 pm, 10:00 pm lights out.
The best thing about the camp other than the coaches’ games were that the players came first.
