Camp Humphreys is located approximately 40 kilometers south of Osan.
Camp Humphreys is a short distance from the city of Pyongtaek, and adjacent to the town of Anjung-ri.
In 1961 the airfield was re-named Camp Humphreys, in honor of CWO Benjamin K. Humphreys, of the 4th Transportation Company, who died in a helicopter accident near here.

The Area III Support Activity of the U.S. Army Installation Management Agency Korea Region Office is headquartered at Camp Humphreys near the medium sized city of Pyeongtaek and adjacent to the town of Anjung-ri in the Republic of (South) Korea, which is often referred to as the ROK.
Camp Humphreys, or "The Hump" as it is affectionately known, is home to Desiderio Army Airfield (the busiest overseas airfield with over 60, 000 movements annually) as well as 6th Cavalry Brigade and numerous other units.
Camp Humphreys is currently a component of the United States Army Support Activity (USASA) Area III houses three units commanded by Colonels: Area III headquarters, 23rd Area Support Group and 6th Cavalry Bde.

According to the first issue of the camp newspaper, The Castle, Camp A.A. Humphreys was "the wonder city in the midst of an unbroken wilderness of forest and swamp "where "the Washingtons and the Fairfaxes hunted the fox."
The development of Camp A.A. Humphreys transformed the agrarian neighborhood around Accotink and Woodlawn; one historian described the establishment of the camps "the second invasion by the armed forces" of the Woodlawn neighborhood.
At war's end in November 1918, Camp A.A. Humphreys became a demobilization center where troops were prepared for their return to civilian life.

CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea -- The U.S. military’s plan to transform Camp Humphreys into its premier installation in South Korea will see the base triple in size and become the home or workplace of some 45,000 troops, civilians and family members, said the general in charge of the effort.

I was at Camp Humphrey's 1970 to 71 I remember the village Triple 7 -Double 7 and the 7 club I was stationed with the 44th Herc Missles and ran the PLL supply depot in Hump.
I was stationed at Camp Humphreys also, I was there from 1977-78, I was the Stockade Dining Facility Manager and also worked at the E M Club as an M.A. If anyone remembers me please contact me at evils1.1@netzero.com would like to hear from you.
I was at Humphreys twice-from 1978-1979 as a medic with the 545th General Dispensary,and from 1982-1984 as a Korean linguist working at Field Station Korea.Have MANY fond memories of the ville-Duffy's,The Top Hat,the Peacock,etc.Spent 78-79 working the VD Clinic,so you know I was busy.Great web site.

The protesters were protesting the ROK governments move to buy adjacent farm land around the camp to begin building the needed facilities in order to move soldiers stationed on Yongsan and the 2ID area to Camp Humphreys by 2008.
Camp Humphreys for the most part is surrounded by rice paddies on three sides which makes Camp Humphreys the ideal place to expand a camp to relocate soldiers.
Finally what I find most ironic about all of this, is that these same thug protesters that went down to Camp Humphreys to stir up trouble are the same people who protest outside of Yongsan Garrison demanding that it be moved.
