CAMP RED CLOUD — U.S. Army camps north of Seoul suffered millions of dollars in flood damages and one soldier was killed during severe flooding in the last three years.
Camp Red Cloud and its surrounding bases sustained $125 million in damages in the 1998 floods.
Many of Red Cloud’s Quonset huts disappeared and are being replaced by more modern buildings, including two new barracks that cost $12 million, and a $6 million division headquarters.

CRC is home to the 2nd Infantry Division command group, 122 Signal Battalion, Air Force personnel, and a few smaller units.
The housing at CRC is the best in 2ID with soldiers living in new barracks with no more than 2 people per room.
One downside to CRC is that it is often the site of protests that occur in the country against US forces since it is the division headquarters.

Camp Red Cloud (known as "CRC") was the base camp for I-Corp Infantry Headquarters (of MASH fame).
So there we stood,...stupefied by the situation, helplessly watching our precious fuel running down the road and soaking into the ground, miles from our base camp, with no idea what road we were on, or where it lead, and no radio to call for help,...even if we had known where we were.
About half way back to camp we started to run out of fuel, so we stopped to tighten the ropes, pound the plug a couple of times for luck, and dumped the rest of the gas into the tank.

The district is designing two administration buildings for Camp Casey; Honolulu District is designing two standard design Bachelor Officers Quarters (BOQs), each to house 48 officers, one for Camp Casey and one for Camp Hovey; and A-E firms are designing the remaining eight projects.
Besides this work, the district has conducted a hydraulics and hydrology study of the flooded areas at Camps Casey and Red Cloud, and drafts with the Corps' recommendations have gone to the Directors of Public Works at those installations.
The cell will be in place by the end of this month in office space at Camp Red Cloud.
