MINCAVA: In Memory of Paul and Sheila Wellstone   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
She worked effectively to coordinate the work being done to end violence against women, served as a link between research, policy and advocacy, and she was skilled at bringing all of these aspects together and creating effective legislation.
Their deaths came at the end of a hard fought political campaign in which the use and abuse of American power in other parts of the world were central to the debate.
The two Minnesota organizations which work to end domestic violence and to promote the availability of services to battered women and their children are overwhelmingly saddened by the loss of two great friends and two of the most committed leaders on the issue of domestic violence that the federal government has ever known.

 The Backbone Campaign
Citizens with the Backbone Campaign have been calling for Congress to stand up for the truth for two years now.
The Administration's "With us or against us," "Mushroom cloud," "Yellowcake" rhetoric, delivered with the sincerest, patronizing voices of assurance was not merely dishonest.
This is not a "Re-writing of history," as the administration accuses, but a rightful wrenching of its authorship away from those who would seek to justify their own excesses.

The Black Commentator - Democrats Counter GOP's Black Radio Scam-paign - Issue 105
Democrats are going “toe to toe” against a Republican campaign to pollute Black-oriented media, principally radio, with negative and voter suppression ads in key “battleground” states, say officials at the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
According to Clifford Franklin, president of St. Louis-based The Fuse, the agency that created the Black ads, the Soros-financed media campaign is “aimed particularly at those who have an extremely cynical view of the political process" — that is, African Americans between the ages of 18 and 35.
These are the same folks that are against affirmative action, oppose civil rights.

 Environmentalists Against War
But far from being the heartfelt opinion of an Iraqi writer, as its language implied, the article was prepared by the United States military as part of a multimillion-dollar covert campaign to plant paid propaganda in the Iraqi news media and pay friendly Iraqi journalists monthly stipends, military contractors and officials said.
In many cases, the material prepared by the military was given to advertising agencies for placement, and at least some of the material ran with an advertising label.
With its unprecedented campaign to undermine and stifle independent journalism, Bush & Co. have demonstrated brazen contempt for the Constitution and considerable fear of an informed public.

 The Tennessee River Campaign
The Vicksburg campaign was one of the longest of the war, resulting in large military and civilian casualties.
The elections of 1862 had gone against the party which was for the prosecution of the war to save the Union if it took the last man and the last dollar.
Regarding the Vicksburg campaign, the correctness of Carroll's thinking in her October letter, was essentially confirmed by Grant in his memoirs.

U.S. Senate: Art & History Home > Richard Mentor Johnson, 9th Vice President (1837-1841)
A campaign to remove him from the Democratic ticket in 1840 failed only because Van Buren, while no Johnson enthusiast, was unwilling to alienate the eastern labor vote and because party leaders were reluctant to force a potentially divisive confrontation.
Nineteenth-century campaign biographies and a modern study based on these earlier accounts are heavily colored by the heroic rhetoric that Johnson and his supporters employed throughout his career.
He routinely waived legal fees for the indigent land claimants he represented in suits against wealthy speculators, and his home was a mecca for disabled veterans, widows, and orphans seeking his assistance.

The circumstances in which Fujimori was sworn in for his third consecutive term on July 28 were symptomatic of the deep crisis of legitimacy facing his government after a decade in power.

Bujold unfolds her comedy of manners while continuing to explore familiar themes: the difficulties in becoming a strong adult woman in a patriarchy, the need for trust and honesty in relationships between the sexes, the difference between appearance and identity, and the impact of advanced biotechnologies on society.
For those unfamiliar with this series, "A Civil Campaign" is set on the planet Barrayar, a conservative, militaristic society with a turbulent past.
Miles later returns home, and in A Civil Campaign, launches his greatest strategic assault ever, to win the love of the recently widowed Ekaterin, who's currently struggling to find her own identity after years with a domineering husband.

Here Comes Everybody: a review of Who Wrote Shakespeare?
To be fair, it should be stated that he withdraws his theory almost as soon as he offers it as "just one story" among many, a number of them "very attractive, by first-rate scholars and mythmakers," but none conclusively right--or wrong (page 261), but this seems more sneakiness than modesty.
Revealingly, Michell opens his campaign not with hard evidence, but with the standard antistratfordian attack on the paucity of references to Shakespeare in the official records of his time, and in the memoirs, letters, and other writings of his contemporaries.
That Stratfordians would dispute that there are any points raised against their position that they haven't fully answered numerous times is merely additional evidence that they are "no less victims of their own beliefs than the Baconians or other dogmatists" (257).

Chapter I-THE ARDENNES: BATTLE OF THE BULGE
Napoleon, before the invasion of Russia, had forbidden any reference to the ill-fated campaign of Charles XII of Sweden because "the circumstances were altered." Hitler in turn had brushed aside the fate of both these predecessors, in planning his Russian campaign, because they had lacked tanks and planes.
The campaigns in the east had finally convinced Hitler, or so it would appear, that the vast distances in the east and the seemingly inexhaustible flow of Soviet divisions created a military problem whose solution lay beyond the capabilities of the Third Reich as long as the latter was involved in a multifront war.
The most impressive argument for ascribing sole authorship of the Ardennes idea to Hitler is found in the simple fact that every major military decision in the German High Command for months past had been made by the Fuehrer, and that these Hitler decisions were made in detail, never in principle alone.

Hatch Claims Authorship of "Compassionate Conservative" -- 07/13/1999
With his relatively late entry into the race for the Republican nomination and the advantages of money and name recognition enjoyed by some of his rivals, Hatch is considered by most observers in New Hampshire to be a long shot.
Anne Hoffman, who chairs the Bedford Republican Committee and hosted the closed-door session at the campaign's request, characterized the primary as "a crap shoot," discounting predictions in some quarters that Bush is the inevitable nominee.
A campaign spokesman said Hatch hopes to raise $36 from each of one million people, in an effort to close the gap with the Texan.

Campaign 2004: Where The Democratic Candidates Stand on Cheney's Strategic Policies and the Iraq War   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
The campaign release stated, "The charges against Cheney are centered on the fact that the Vice President repeatedly used documents, allegedly from the government of Niger, purporting to show Iraqi government efforts to purchase large quantities of uranium precursor 'yellow cake' from that African nation, long after he learned that the documents were forged.
LaRouche "wrote the book" on the neo-conservative war faction, including the circulation by his campaign of millions of copies of the pamphlet The Children of Satan, and numerous articles providing the historical background necessary to understand why the Cheney clique would launch a foolish and unnecessary war against Iraq.
A means should be established to prosecute crimes committed against the Iraqi people by individuals associated with Saddam Hussein's regime and a democratic transition will take between 18-24 months, although troops should expect to be in Iraq for a longer period.

Joseph Sobran's Alias Shakespeare: A Selective Critique
This is only the basics, but it's actually much more (and more explicit) evidence of authorship than we have for virtually any of Shakespeare's contemporaries; the lives of members of the middle class like Shakespeare were just not that well documented, and in any case plays weren't considered literature like they are today.
This seems to me an accurate description of Sobran's major argument against William Shakespeare of Stratford, and indeed Sobran's major premise (the first statement above) is an important part of his "case" in favor of Oxford's authorship.
Nelson notes that Sobran argues against the idea that William Shakespeare could have been Southampton's lover in the 1590s by pointing out that Shakespeare was married with three small children at the time.
