Concerns about how the new municipality of Campbellford Seymour is operating prompted 50 local citizens to attend a meeting on February 1 at the Campbellford Masonic Hall to organize a ratepayers' association.
Organizer Tony White, a Campbellford resident, said he and others who organized the meeting believe there is a need for a group to ride herd on council's spending, hiring practices, service delivery and its perceived failure to communicate with the electorate.
White is concerned that amalgamation between Campbellford and Seymour Township has not produced the results expected in terms of reduction of duplication of jobs and services.

The agreement allowed Elieff to pay-out the municipal mortgages as lots were sold, with the proviso that the balance of service fees owing would be due on December 31, 2000.
Elieff said he has repaid the municipality as each lot was sold, and that a final payment will be made "as per contract, by the end of this year." Those facts were confirmed by municipal Administrator James Timlin.
