Canadian Centennial - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Canadian Centennial was a year long celebration held in 1967 when Canada celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation.
In retrospect, the centennial is seen by many as a high point of Canadian aspirations prior to the anxious decade of the 1970s that saw the nation divided over issues relating to inflation, an economic recession, government budget deficits and Quebec separatism.
Popular Canadian historian Pierre Berton has referred to the centennial as "the last good year" in his book of the same name.

Canadian dollar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Canadian dollar is the monetary basis for the Canadian economy, with all coins manufactured by the Royal Canadian Mint and all bills manufactured by the Canadian Bank Note Company.
The standard set of faces has Canadian symbols (primarily wildlife) on the reverse, and an effigy of Elizabeth II on the obverse.
From 1952 to 1960, the Canadian dollar traded at a slight premium over the US dollar, reaching a high of US$1.0614 on 20 August 1957 (the all-time high of US$2.78 was reached on 11 July 1864 after the United States had temporarily abandoned the gold standard).

Quarter (Canadian coin) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
According to the Royal Canadian Mint, the official name for the coin is the 25 cent coin, but in practice the term quarter is nearly universal.
In Canadian French, the quarter is commonly (and counter-intuitively) called a trente sous (a "thirty cents").
This is because the sou originally referred to a monetary unit used in France (and also New France), whereas today in Canadian French it means a Canadian cent, and somewhere in history 120 sous of New France came to be worth the equivalent of what eventually became the Canadian dollar.

To be a Canadian writer of any kind, in other words, is to be "queer" in a world where the definitions are made elsewhere.
Canadian gay and lesbian writing speaks to that element in the national soul that is looking for an identity, as if it summarized articulately the national quest for definition.
If there is nothing particularly Canadian about the distinction between soulful winsomeness on the one hand and sexual realism on the other, nonetheless, a great deal of Anglophone gay writing in Canada seems to fall into one "camp" or the other.
