Canadian Food Inspection Agency was introduced in the House of Commons by Ralph Goodale, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC).
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is a federal initiative, but it has won the support of all provinces, who see the Agency as a way to assist in the harmonization of food inspection standards Canada-wide, and to reduce any gaps or overlap between systems and jurisdictions.

Schweitzer then announced Montana would test Canadian cattle entering the state and charge for the extra inspection.
The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a Montana court’s ruling and said U.S. imports of young Canadian cattle posed a negligible risk of spreading mad cow disease two years after Canada found its first domestic case.
