Formed at the request of F.S. Meighen, His Majesty's Canadian Grenadier Guards Band was intended to accompany parades and other regimental activities.
Under Gagnier the grenadiers made seven 78s for HMV (the list is given in Roll Back the Years), one 78 (not commercially available) for Victor (PR 659-60), and in 1964 with Miceli the LP On Parade for RCA (LPM 2599).
Claude Champagne composed the Ballade des lutins for the grenadiers in 1914; like Hervé Baillargeon and Francis Boucher, Champagne for a time was a member of the band.

The Ceremonial Guard was a composite of companies from the Governor General’s Foot Guards and Montreal's Canadian Grenadier Guards, from 1981 the Band of the Ceremonial Guard, and a Headquarters Company (which provided supply, transportation, training, administrative and medical support).
Although the GGFG and the CGG had previously mounted guard and paraded on ceremonial occasions, including the visit of His Majesty the King in 1939, it was not until the summer of 1959 that continuing daily Public Duties was conducted in the Nation's Capital.
The first Guard at Government House and ceremony on Parliament Hill was mounted on 2 July 1959 by the 1st Battalion The Canadian Guards following the Household Guard which had been mounted for Her Majesty the Queen in June 1959.

 Grenadier Guards
The Grenadier Guards trace their origin back to around 1656 during Charles II's exile; when a new standing army was formed on the Restoration in 1660, it included the King's Royal Regiment of Foot Guards.
On this occasion, in 1906, the entire Grenadier Guards Band travelled to Oxford at their own expense to witness the ceremony of the conferring of the degree, and to hear the Vice-Chancellor comment, 'I understand that you are a pioneer in the army in regard to the degree of Doctor of Music.
A further distinctive feature of foot guards' uniforms which has survived is the grouping of the buttons on the front of their tunics: the Grenadiers being the senior are normally spaced, Coldstreamers grouped in twos, Scots in threes, Irish in fours and the Welsh in fives.

At 0929 hours information had been received from the Seventh Canadian Infantry Brigade that the operation on their front was proceeding according to plan.
Due to the difficulty the Eighth Canadian Infantry Brigade was having in dislodging the enemy and as time was getting on, it was decided to break through their front before they had consolidated on their objective, and continue along the axis.

 GGFG - Governor General's Foot Guards
Battle Honours, in a Guards Regiment, are displayed on both the Queen's Colour and the Regimental Colour.
For example, the Scots Guards, Irish Guards and Welsh Guards only deck their Colours on the occasions that are also recorded in the Battle Honours emblazoned on the Colours themselves.
The Grenadier Guards and the Coldstream Guards commemorate battles that are only recorded as lesser Honours granted for the Great War and for the Second World War that are shown in the Army List, but not displayed on the Colours.

Located between Argentan and Falaise, Trun was an important element of the plan to close the Falaise "gap" and trap the Germans in the region.
