The Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame was founded in 1993 by Lee Abrahamson and Gary Magwood to fill a need in the Canadian motorsport community.
Since the founding the organization has grown, developed and matured into a national charitable institution, the Canadian Automotive Collection, operated by a volunteer Board of Directors in trust for all Canadian motorsport fans.
In addition to the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame and the annual Induction Gala, the Canadian Automotive Collection operates a Museum and Archives.

He had a varied motorsport career, taking in Formula Atlantic, CART, Can-Am, snowmobile racing and Formula One, and remains a revered figure in Canadian motorsport circles.
At the end of 1981, he took a pair of drives for the Arrows Formula One team, but failed to qualify for the Canadian Grand Prix, or the United States East Grand Prix.
The following year he became the first Canadian to win a CART race, taking victory in the wet/dry race at Elkhart Lake on his way to 8th overall in the standings.

Villeneuve was born in the small town of Berthierville, Quebec, Canada.
The racetrack on Île Notre-Dame, Montreal, used for the Molson Indy and Grand Prix du Canada, was renamed in his honour at the Canadian Grand Prix of 1982 after his death.

Legendary Canadian drag racer Bob Elliott of Wingham, Ontario now has his original funny car fire-suit on display at the Canadian Motorsport Hall Of Fame in Toronto Ontario.
It was during this period in the early 1960s that the seed of speed was planted in Elliott, and his quest for more power and speed took grasp, a trait that helped him in his racing successes in later years.
