The Canadian War Museum, located in Ottawa, Ontario is a Canadian museum that honours Canada's veterans and commemorates the wars and conflicts in which Canada has taken part.
The museum traces its history back to 1880 when a small museum in the Cartier Square Drill Hall was founded by Militia officers of what was then the Ottawa garrison.

Appointed in 1975 as a researcher in the Canadian Centre for Folk Culture Studies, in 1991 Carmelle Bégin was the curator of the ethnomusicology program and Lucien Ouellet was research assistant.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum are presenting an exhibition of five spectacular First World War plaster sculptures in the Main Lobby of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
Created between 1925 and 1930 by Canadian sculptor Walter Allward, the plaster sculptures are the models for the figures on the Vimy Memorial in France.
Restoration of the plaster models began in 1999 in conjunction with the touring exhibition Canvas of War, which was on view at the Canadian Museum of Civilization from February 2000 to January 2001.

We, the undersigned artists, are dismayed at the decision by the Canadian Museum of Civilization to terminate the contract of Dr. Aida Kaouk, curator of the important exhibition "The Lands Within Me: Expressions by Canadian Artists of Arab Origin", and to close entirely the Museum's Southwest Asian and Middle East program.
We feel both acts are extensions of the Museum's controversial decision in 2001, under its president Victor Rabinovitch, to postpone the exhibition of "The lands Within Me" following the events of September 11.
The museum justifies its decision to close the Southwest Asian/Middle East program on the grounds of "get[ting] out of ethnic categorizations," yet other programs, such as Southeast Asia or Southwest Europe, are exempt from this closure.
