Politics of Canada - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The political system under which Canada operates, known as the Westminster system, was enshrined by the British Parliament in the Constitution Act, 1867 (also known as the British North America Act), but the federal model and division of powers were devised by Canadian politicians.
Canadian politicians were unable to obtain consensus on a process for amending the constitution until 1982.
Because the Canadian Conservative party was new, estimates were attempted based on the votes for the old Progressive Conservative Party of Canada and the Canadian Alliance party as the Conservative Party of Canada was a merger of the two parties.

Politics of the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Politics of the United States of America takes place in a framework of a federal presidential representative democratic republic, whereby the President of the United States is both head of state and head of government, and of a pluriform multi-party system.
State legislators began to enact tough laws that made it harder for minor political parties to run candidates for office by requiring a high number of petition signatures from citizens and decreasing the length of time that such a petition could legally be circulated.
During the second half of the 20th century the overall political philosophy of both the Republican Party and the Democratic Party underwent a dramatic shift from their earlier philosophies.

Compulsory voting in Australian national elections
To repeat, though, the political impact of the abolition of compulsory voting would be uncertain, not least because of the long gap since Australians last voted under a voluntary regime, as well as changes over time in the underlying party allegiances/voting patterns of Australians.
The majority of Australians endorse compulsory voting and could be said to consent to the obligation to vote, not merely because they feel bound to obey the laws of a relatively just society, but because they apparently regard this particular law and its entailed obligations as a reasonable imposition on personal autonomy.
One defence made by Australian non-voters has been that if none of the candidates on the ballot paper attracts the voter, the voter may prefer not to vote at all.  The problem, though, is that this is not a defence that the courts have been prepared to countenance.

Free Votes in Australian and some Overseas Parliaments
This paper surveys past and present practice in Australian political parties in allowing free votes in the Commonwealth Parliament, the practice in some overseas parliaments, and the conditions under which free votes are allowed.
It is common for Australian commentators to confuse the concepts of free votes and crossing the floor because both actions involve the notion of voting according to conscience.
However, a Canadian political scientist has suggested that one compelling reason for not increasing the number of free votes is the impact this would have on the Westminster system of government.

baynews9.com - Business News : Japanese Shun U.S. Beef, Eat Australian
Australian beef was once viewed as tough and tasteless compared to its U.S. counterpart, but that stereotype is vanishing on quality upgrades by switching feed to grain, instead of just grass, to cater to the Japanese palate.
There's no doubt the Australian beef industry has been the biggest beneficiary from the serious troubles U.S. beef is facing in regaining consumer acceptance in Japan _ the world's second largest economy and once a $1.4 billion export market for American beef.
Australian beef shipments to Japan surged 45 percent to 412,000 tons last year from 284,000 tons in 2003.

This is a worry, since the United States is the chief source of global warming, the most influential model of an unsustainable way of life, the most powerful negotiator in trade deals, the country with the most powerful armaments, and in various ways the main locus of the most serious problems facing the human race.
The chief defect of the US political system is that the terms of office of Congress and President are absolutely fixed, so that the executive government cannot call Congressional opponents to account by dissolving the Congress and (except by impeachment) the Congress cannot call the executive government to account--i.e.

Additionally, a further aspect of the Australian system or form of government is the establishment of, what might best be described as, a dependent circle of control with the connecting of the appointments of the Governor-General and the Prime Minister.
That said, repeal or amendment of the Australia Act (and the Statute of Westminster) may occur by an Act of the Parliament of the Commonwealth passed at the request or with the concurrence of the Parliaments of all the States and, subject to subsection (3) of the Australia Act, only in that manner.
Clearly, there is a nexus between the Australian Constitution and The Australia Act relating to the changing of the Australian Constitution and the rôle of the Crown in it when taking State matters into account.
