		The town of Canadice was formed under its present name as a distinct civil division of the county on the 15th of April, 1829, although it was not until the next year that the organization was made complete.
		Honeoye Lake is the most historic of the three which touch the town, and by reference to an earlier chapter, the reader will learn the interesting events connected with its early history, and also that of the locality.
		Canadice occupies a position in the southwestern part of the county, and is more remote and inaccessible from the county seat than any other of the towns.

		Water is pumped from Hemlock Lake and flows by gravity from Canadice Lake to the filtration plant on the northern shore of Hemlock Lake.
		Hemlock Lake water is drawn through the intake crib and intake line to the pump station.

		This area is the tiny westernmost Finger Lakes, and the hilly areas in between; namely, the relatively unknown Finger Lakes are just west of Canandaigua Lake are: Honeoye (pronounced: honey-oy and rhymes with "funny-boy"), Canadice, Hemlock and Conesus Lake (written up as a separate site).
		Honeoye Lake is good for migrant waterfowl and lingering winter birds until the lake freezes.

	Canadice History
		Canadice was set off from Richmond in 1829 and the first town meeting was held April 6, 1830, at which time officers were elected.
		The city of Rochester has acquired rights to both of these lakes, and not content with the use of the waters therefrom, is closing them round with city ownership of all contiguous territory and causing all cottages to be removed and beginning a return to primeval days by reforesting.
		As the statutory boundary of the west side of the town along the lake shore was somewhat ambiguous, he construed it to suit his purpose and contended that the boundary line was at the water line.

	Canadice Lake Trail
		Ninety-foot-deep Canadice Lake is the smallest of the Finger Lakes, but it has the highest elevation, at 1,096 feet, one of the reasons it is such a good water supply for the city.
		Today, the Hemlock and Canadice Lakes watershed continues to be Rochester’s primary source of drinking water.
