 'Un Canadien errant'
It was the descendants of these Acadians who, finding the words of 'Un Canadien errant' appropriate to their own situation, changed the opening line to 'Un Acadien errant' and sang the resulting variant to the Gregorian tune 'Ave Maris stella,' adopting it as their national song.
A Fantaisie on the tune of 'Un Canadien errant' was played 13 Apr 1926 at the Monument national by its composer Albert Chamberland.
Ernest Gagnon in his Chansons populaires du Canada (Quebec City 1865) says 'the original tune was "J'ai fait une maîtresse" of which the words of the variant "Si tu te mets anguille" are only rather altered fragments'.

By the late 1920s, western parties did not dispute their collective obligation to defend the USSR or its right to strengthen its national security through diplomatic manoeuvres.
Like all member parties of the Communist International (Comintern), the Communist Party of Canada (CPC) embarked on a dramatic change of political direction - the Popular Front Against Fascism - after the Seventh (and last) Comintern Congress in summer 1935.
Yes, Party leaders acknowledged, bourgeois-democracy had paved the way for Fascism and had not "become all right overnight." Yet, while reassuring members that they would "never be satisfied until we have Soviet-democracy, the dictatorship of the proletariat," they insisted that the rise of Fascism had changed the political situation and necessitated a change in tactics.
