Anode ray - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anode rays (or Canal rays) were produced in experiments by a German scientist, Eugen Goldstein, in 1886.
A "ray" was produced in the holes (canals) in the cathode and traveled in a direction opposite to the "cathode ray." Goldstein called these rays "Kanalstrahlen" - canal rays.
In 1907 a study of how this "ray" was deflected in a magnetic field, revealed that the particles making up the ray were of varying mass.

Canal rays in a discharge tube from a sketch by Wien [2].
This means, the direction of observation is perpendicular to the velocity of the canal rays and parallel to the magnetic field and therefore transversal to the electrodynamic field as in case of the experiments performed with the electrostatic field.
The canal rays behind the cathode mainly consist of neutral, partially-excited atoms or molecules which are formed in front of the cathode or behind it by charge exchange from ions.

 F58: Canal Rays
Canal rays are streams of positive ions in a rarefied gas.
However, when the plate is positive and the pins negative, a concentrated beam of canal rays is emitted by the plate, and the beam is difficult to deflect with magnets.
This tube demonstrates that the shadows of the cross cast by light and canal rays are coincident.

Eugene Goldstein - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1886, Goldstein noted that cathode-ray tubes with a perforated cathode emit a glow from the end of the tube near the cathode.
Goldstein concluded that in addition to the electrons, or cathode rays, that travel from the negatively charged cathode toward the positively charged anode, there is another ray that travels in the opposite direction, from the anode toward the cathode.
Because these rays pass through the holes, or channels, in the cathode, Goldstein called them canal rays.

Eugen Goldstein, Wilhelm Wien, en de kanaalstralen, 1886-1912   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
Canal rays, not widely known today, were discovered when a perforated cathode was used in a gas discharge.
This led him to conclude that the canal ray particles should be identified with the ions of the gas, and to propose a theory about their behaviour.
After this historical description, the article examines possible reasons why the canal rays were ignored for such a long time after their discovery, the highly experimental character of Wien's investigations (in spite of his reputation as a theoretician), and the relationship between Wien's work and J.J. Thomson's research on canal rays.

 Crook's Tubes
Cathode rays normally travel in a straight line but are deflected through an arc when passing through a magnetic or electric field, the direction of the curvature depending on the polarity of the field with respect to the direction taken by the rays.
Obviously since cathode rays leave the cathode at right angles to its surface they come to a focus at a point on the platinum foild and the intensity of the energy concentrated at this point turns the platinum white hot.
Due to the kinetic energy of the cathode rays the wheel is forced to roll along the rails toward the positive electrode.

 Root Canal Questions
A root canal that has become re-infected will usually continue to cause pain or discomfort, especially when biting down.
In most cases, root canal is the preferable choice, because it is the only way to save the tooth.
The answer to the question hinges on whether either or both of the teeth have become “re-infected” after the root canal was initially performed.

The tube shows that there are positive rays (canal rays) as well as negative rays (cathode rays) formed by an electrical discharge in a partial vacuum.
When a dishcarge is passed through the tube, the grid gives off high speed electrons, or cathode rays, which cause the lower part of the tube to fluoresce with a greenish color.
One can show that the canal rays and cathode rays are positive and negative, respectively in nature, by bringing a magnetic bar close to the tube and observing the deflection occurred.
