 The Canary Current
The Canary current is the southwestward flow component of the North Atlantic subtropical gyre.
The Canary Current flows along the African coast from north to south between 30°N and 10°N and offshore to 20°W (Fedoseev 1970).
The current passes through the Canary archipelago, the influence of the Equatorial Countercurrent is the same as in winter, and the strong cyclonic gyres form once again.

 Lanzarote Weather - DiscoverLanzarote.com
While the higher western Canary Islands receive plenty of rain on their mountainous northerly slopes, Lanzarote's low hills lack the altitude to cause rain (Orographic precipitation).
Although the, sometimes strong, north-easterly winds are often blocked by buildings or hills in the main tourist resorts, some care should be taken not to get sunburnt as the cooling effect of the breeze may prevent you from noticing the effects of the strong sunshine.
The Canary Current also helps to temper the climate, bringing colder sea-water temperatures than would otherwise be expected at this latitude.

The Azores Current and the Canary Current are part of  the eastern recirculation of the North Atlantic subtropical gyre.
The current is related to the Azores Front, which shows strong meanders and separates colder and fresher water in the north from warm and salty water in the south.
The objectives of this study are to provide a Lagrangian description of the Azores Current, to investigate  the transition between the Azores Current and the Canary Current and to study whether the Azores Current also feeds the poleward undercurrent along the African shelf.

In the reversing type of tidal current, the curve is referred to rectangular coordinates with time represented by the abscissa and the speed of the current by the ordinate, the flood speeds being considered as positive and the ebb speeds as negative.

THE GUANCHES OF THE CANARY ISLANDS
As the original inhabitants of the Canary Islands were fair-haired and bearded, it was possible, Heyerdahl suggested, that long before the 15th Century, people of the same stock as those who settled the Canary Islands, also sailed the same route along the Canary Current that took Christopher Columbus to the Americas.
The existence of the red-haired Guanches on the Canary Islands, combined with the red-haired pre-Columbus mummies found in South America and the marked similarity in pyramid building styles, indicate that an over the atlantic people probably used the Canaries Current to cross the Atlantic, most likely between 2000 and 500 BC.
Among the original inhabitants of the Canaries many were fair-haired and bearded, and probably related to the Berbers who inhabited the coastal areas of North Africa before the Arab conquest.

Current Weather and Temperatures in the Canary Islands
The Canary Islands are famous for their mild sub-tropical climate throughout the year, with an average temperature of 19-22°C. However the summers can be hot, especially in August, though it´s nothing compared to the mediterranean heat.
But at the same time, the Canary Islands are closer to the equator, which means that the sun burns even more so do remember to use appropriate protection.

The Azores current penetrates into the eastern basin, recirculating southwestward mainly near the coast in the Canary Current which contributes to the general circulation of the sub-tropical anticyclonic gyre.
The Canary current is similar to the Azores Current, in the sense that it is low energy, a slower mean current and that it meanders around large, low energy eddies.
Though the mean current is not as well established eastward as it was in 1993, the strong interaction with large eddies that was observed two years ago seems to be forgotten.

 Ocean current Summary
While the surface currents are caused by the winds and a geographically uneven solar energy distribution, the deep ocean currents are the result of sinking and upwelling water, and termohaline (temperature and salinity) differences.
Surface ocean currents are generally wind driven and develop their typical clockwise spirals in the northern hemisphere and counter-clockwise rotation in the southern hemisphere due to the imposed wind stresses.
The areas of surface ocean currents move somewhat with the seasons, this is most notable in equatorial currents.

Surface currents are subject to large deflections due to the Coriolis effect; density-driven currents are less influenced by the Coriolis effect because they are so slow moving.
As with the Pacific Ocean, the equatorial currents are the same; the North Equatorial Current flows westward north of the equator and the South Equatorial Current flows west south of the equator.
A current pattern is set up whereby cold, deeper water is transported to the surface to replace the warm surface water that has been swept seaward by the wind.
