  MySpace.com - Canasta - CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - Indie / Pop / Rock - www.myspace.com/canasta
So Canasta came together in early 2002 when six friends joined forces and augmented the standard rock set-up with piano, violin, keyboard and trombone, in an effort to craft a more ambitious strain of majestic, ultra-melodic, orchestral pop.
Canasta songs are nothing if not eclectic; you'll hear everything from bouncy, horn-driven ditties to epic, sweeping anthems and slow, country-tinged narratives to instrumental post-rock.
In late 2003, Canasta released its debut EP, Find the Time, which was mastered by Keith Cleversley (The Flaming Lips) and brought the band to the attention of the critics.

  Playing Cards - canasta rules
In addition to the point values of the cards, a canasta earns a bonus of 500 for a natural or "pure" canasta (one that has no wild card), and 300 for a mixed canasta (one that has one to three wild cards).
A completed canasta is squared up with a red card on top to indicate a natural one and a fl card on top to indicate a mixed canasta.
Additional cards may be added to a canasta to score their point values, but these do not affect the bonus - except that a wild card added to a natural canasta reduces it to a mixed canasta (and a fl card replaces the red card that was previously on top).

If this canasta was already complete in your hand before your turn, and you also have a natural pair of a different rank that matches the top card of the discard pile, you can use the pair to take the discard pile in the same turn.
Note that if a team has at least one completed canasta, the values of their melded cards (item 4) are always added to their score, even if these cards form part of an incomplete canasta of aces, sevens or wild cards (item 2) for which the team is to be penalised.

A "game" in Canasta is where you play many "hands", adding the scores together, until a player or a team reaches 5000 points.
There is one bad thing about using a wildcard, canastas with wildcards are called "wild canastas" (with wild cards in them) and are not worth as many points as "natural canastas" which have no wildcards.
