I have had the pleasure of exploring the diverse geographical region around Candela, Coahuila, thanks in large part to the hospitality of Rosaura and Omar Tijerina, who have allowed me and my family to enjoy their old Candela home.
The pozas of this region, clearly marked from the highway and protected by the Mexican government since November 1994, are inland desert wetlands fed from channels that route mineralized water from deep aquifers.
With our able guide, a young man from Candela, we left early one Sunday morning for a climbing trek along rocky terrain, a two and a half-hour climb that rose about a thousand feet to the mesa that bears the name of the last indigenos who lived there, the Catujano tribe.

Areas of study include the El Picacho Complex and San Carlos District in the state of Tamaulipas, the Candela-Monclova area of Coahuila and Nuevo Leon, and the Aguachile District of northern Coahuila.
In northeastern Mexico, F ± Be deposits are spatially associated with syenite and phonolite ± alkali rhyolite while Cu ± Au mineralization appears to be spatially correlated with more mafic monzonite and (quartz) diorite.

Alejo Perez, Juana's son, was a long-time local San Antonio city official whose descendants still live in San Antonio.
When Alsbury was marched to Mexico with other San Antonio captives of Adrian Woll’s invasion in September 1842, Juana followed the Texan prisoners as far as Candela, Coahuila, where she waited for Alsbury's return.
In late August 1835, after perhaps being at the legislature of Coahuila and Texas in Monclova, Alsbury published a handbill in Columbia, "To The People Of Texas," warning of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna's plans to drive Anglo-Americans from Texas.
