A selection from a decade of visits to tower and studio sites in the Northeast and beyond
KXAS (Channel 5), the NBC affiliate that had been a latecomer to the original candelabra (which was the very first candelabra tower ever), decided to go its own way, leasing land at the eastern edge of the Hill Tower property for a new tower of its own.
But enough about the past; after that crash, the Hill Tower consortium of WFAA and KDFW decided to build a new, taller candelabra to the south of the old one.
Away from the Hill Tower property, a mile or so to the east on the US 67 frontage road, a separate site is home to KTVT (Channel 11), the former independent (and long-ago KFJZ-TV) that became a CBS affiliate (and eventually an OandO) when KDFW went to Fox in 1995.

On E. 22nd Street, a candelabra tower is home to KMBC-TV, itself a product of a long-ago affiliation swap and a long-ago channel-sharing deal.
One more tower completes our Kansas City visit: a new candelabra tower just south of Truman Road that's home to KSMO-DT (Channel 47), the KSMO analog channel 62 that used to share the KCPT tower...and to the application for religious KTAJ's DTV operation.
Another mile north and we're at a slightly less impressive site, the newer tower of religious KNLJ (Channel 25), operated by a minister who runs a homeless shelter in St. Louis and frequently uses the residents to host his telethons!

Still another cluster of towers sits about two miles to the south off US 67; it's home to Telefutura's KSTR (49) and KSTR-DT (48), religious KLDT (55) and KLDT-DT (54) and several LPTVs; it will also eventually be home to KDTN-DT (43), which apparently still won't fit on the rebuilt KTVT tower.

 Former KDFW/KXAS/WFAA-TV tower
When this tower was damaged in a plane crash several years ago, the stations' insurance company demanded that the damaged sections -- including the nation's first candelabra top -- be removed.
Rather than reconstruct the old tower, the new tower we just saw was built by channels 4 and 8, and the old tower converted into a single-mast design by removing the top section.
Channel 5 elected not to move to the new 4/8 tower and instead built its own tower nearby.

CHOK (1070) is just a few miles away, with seven towers arrayed in two rows of six with a seventh centered at the end, and a killer signal north into town.

The park is also home to the CBC's Mount Royal transmitter facility, which comprises two large buildings (one used primarily by the CBC and one used by the private television stations) and a very short (about 100 m) candelabra tower, from which nearly all of Montreal's television and FM radio stations emanate.
Mount Royal (French: mont Royal) is a mountain on the Island of Montreal, immediately north of downtown Montréal, Québec, Canada, the city to which it gave its name.
Contrary to popular belief, Mount Royal is not an extinct volcano; however, it is the result of magma intrusion during the Cretaceous to Tertiary time.
