	Candlemas Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Candlemas Island is a small uninhabited island in the South Sandwich Islands at 57°05′S 26°39′W.
		On the northwest flank of the island is an active stratovolcano, Lucifer Hill, that showed signs of activity in 1911 and glowing lava flows during 1953–1954.
		Candlemas Island is the setting of a novel by Ian Cameron, The White Ship (1975), which tells of a disastrous expedition to the island in 1975 were members of the expedition must contend with ghosts of Spaniards shipwrecked on the island in 1818.

		Hart Island isn’t open to the general public, but in 2000 a group of historians were allowed to visit and the resulting ground level photo-tour is well worth seeing.
		Most of the rest of the island group is uncovered by high-resolution, with the stunning exception of the Candlemas Islands, a pair of uninhabited volcanic islands surrounded by hundreds of awesome icebergs.
